Outdoor Facilities Begin to Reopen as Wales Remains in Level 4
The outdoor exercise rule of four people from up to two households remains unchanged, however outdoor target shooting facilities can begin to reopen from Saturday 13th March. It is important to note that social distancing must be maintained whilst Wales remains in Level 4, and facilities must not breech the four people from two separate households rule as they welcome members back. Facility operators should also refer to their insurance policy and provider to ensure that they do not breech those terms when reopening.
The ‘Stay At Home’ advice is also changing to ‘Stay Local’, this means that outdoor target shooting facilities can begin their reopening procedures, however their members and visitors may not be able to attend whilst these rules are in place. The First Minister has suggested that a five mile radius general rule should be applied to Stay Local, however persons living in rural areas may be able to travel further and Welsh people should ‘exercise judgement in their own circumstances’.
Mae'r First Minister’s announcement today marks an important step in returning to target shooting activities in Wales.
The Welsh Target Shooting Federation produced guidance and resources to help outdoor facilities to reopen in June 2020 and these resources can be used again today:

#Don’t Drop The Ball
To help Welsh sport bounce back safely, the Welsh Sports Association has been advocating on behalf of Welsh sport to Welsh government and pooling advice and resources that work within government guidelines. The #don’t drop the ball campaign brings together best practice advice and resources for organisations, facilities, and clubs.
The Welsh Sports Association also provides COVID-19 Awareness Courses for clubs, coaches, and operators of facilities.
Financial Support for Welsh Sport
Sport Wales have provided financial support to the sector in a range of packages and grants are still available to help Welsh sport reopen. The Be Active Wales Fund is open for grant applications, if you are considering a grant application please see our dedicated page for full details on how to apply.
This fund is intended to cover costs associated with reopening in a COVID safe manner, therefore consumables such as masks and hand sanitising gel as well as modifications to facilities such as improvements in ventilation will also be considered. The Welsh Target Shooting Federation is here to support Welsh facilities to reopen in a safe manner and will advise on grant applications prior to and during submission.
