Welsh shooting stars delivered impressive performances at the final round of the British Shooting Air Series held in Aldersley, competing with some of the UK’s top athletes including Paralympic, World, and European champions.
In the Air Rifle team event, Seren Thorne teamed up with Anmol Bhargava, pushing through a strong field to qualify for the bronze medal match. The duo fought hard, ultimately finishing in 4th place, just missing out on the podium in a tightly contested match that ended 16–10.
It was a golden moment in the Gold Medal Match, as Michael Whalley joined forces with Paralympic medallist Tim Jeffery. The pair dominated the final with a commanding performance, clinching gold with a score of 17–7.
Mae'r Mixed Prone Final brought together an elite field, including Paralympic, World, and European champions. Welsh athlete Alun Evans put up a valiant effort to finish 4th, narrowly missing out on a medal. Sue Morris followed closely, securing a strong 5th place finish in a challenging match.
Seren Thorne, who not only performed in the team event but was also crowned Top Junior in the Reiffl Awyr across the entire series — a remarkable achievement.
In the Air Pistol discipline, Emily Shawyer paired with Ayush Chauhan in a tense and thrilling contest for the bronze. The match went down to the wire, with the duo emerging victorious to claim third place, securing the bronze medal with a nail-biting final score of 16–14.
Alongside the medal-winning performances, several other Welsh athletes competed throughout the weekend, showcasing high levels of skill, determination, and sportsmanship. Although they didn’t progress to the finals, their efforts and consistency highlighted the growing depth of talent within Welsh shooting — a strong sign for future competitions.
