***Postponed*** Alternative Airgun Competition Being Scoped For October 2020

23rd September 2020

Last night the Welsh First Minister announced additional restrictions for Wales in the light of increasing Covid-19 cases and hospitalisations. In light of the worsening situation, we have been informed by the Welsh Sports Association that the Welsh Government has decided that plans to progress further test events in Wales are currently on hold.

We were seeking authorisation to run the Cardiff Airgun Grand Prix as a test event. It is now highly unlikely we will gain authorisation by the 24th October and have made the decision to postpone the competition.

All necessary planning, risk assessments, programming, workforce, entry portal and support from Sport Wales National Centre Staff are in place and we are confident that we can deliver a competition once we get the green light to proceed. Which is why we have decided to postpone rather than cancel.

We will monitor the situation in the forthcoming weeks and update once we have a clearer idea of a new date.

18th July 2020

On 16th July the Welsh Airgun Association (WAA) decided to cancel the annual Welsh Airgun Open Championships due to be hosted at Sport Wales National Centre (SWNC) from 23rd to 25th October 2020.

The WAA hosts an excellent annual airgun competition that attracts not only the UK’s best athletes, but those from abroad too. The WTSF supports the WAA in this difficult decision that was not taken lightly or without regret, and looks forward to next years’ thriving Welsh Airgun Open Championships.

The WTSF is scoping options for an alternative airgun event to be held at a similar time at SWNC. This would not be a replacement for the Welsh Airgun Open Championships, it would likely follow a different format, and of course there would be strict health and safety measures in place.

Check back here and follow WTSF social media channels for the latest news on this.
