Welsh Successes At The 152nd Imperial Meeting

The 152nd annual target rifle Imperial Meeting at Bisley opened on 15th July and concluded with the Queen’s Prize event on Saturday 24th. A team of 35 athletes and coaches represented Wales at the meeting (shown above), full results can be found on the National Rifle Association results pages.

The Welsh team won the National Challenge Trophy which is conducted with 20 athletes each from Wales, England, Scotland, and Ireland who shoot at 300, 500, and 600 yards. The 10 Welsh women from the winning team are shown below and the full results can be seen here.

The Queen’s Prize event is conducted over three days and the final third stage of shots are at a distance of 900 and then 1000 yards. This year, Wales had the highest number of competitors ever to reach the final stage and three athletes within the top ten. This included 2021 Jersey Open Champion Henryk Golaszewski in third position, and 10 other Welsh men and women; Bob Oxford, Chris Watson, Al Haley, Ali Carnell, Theo Dodds, Mike Bumford, Oscar Farrell, Oli Russel, Chloe Evans, John Davies.

Following fierce competition from all 99 competitors, Al Haley was the top Welsh athlete in 13th overall position, ahead of Bob Oxford by four V bulls, and a one-point lead on Henryk Golaszewski. Congratulations to the Welsh team for excellent performances over the entire Imperial Meeting.
