Welsh Shooting Celebrates the British Open Para Sport Championships 2026

Athletes of all ages and levels of experience came together in Swansea for the Welsh Shooting British Open Para Sport Championships 2026, held as part of the wider Disability Sport Wales Para Sport Festival.

The event brought together competitors at different stages of their shooting journeys, from young athletes taking part in one of their first major competitions to experienced shooters with many years of competition behind them. For some, it was an opportunity to gain valuable experience, while for others it was another chance to compete alongside fellow athletes and enjoy the sport.

A key feature of the weekend was the opportunity for disabled and non-disabled athletes to compete alongside one another. Athletes were able to take part in the same competitions, share experiences and support each other, contributing to the friendly and welcoming atmosphere that the Championships are known for.

The Championships formed part of the Disability Sport Wales Para Sport Festival, which brought together six sports across three weekends and provided competition opportunities for more than 250 athletes. Shooting has been part of the Para Sport Festival since its inception five years ago, providing opportunities for both new and experienced athletes to compete as part of the wider programme. Welsh Shooting is proud to continue its involvement in the festival and its commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment where athletes can compete, develop and enjoy the sport.

Welsh Shooting would like to thank all the athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, supporters and partners who helped deliver the event. Particular thanks go to Disability Sport Wales for its continued support through the Para Sport Festival, British Shooting, which has supported the competition for many years and the Welsh Airgun Association for its continued support of the event and the wider development of shooting in Wales. We are grateful to everyone who contributed their time, expertise and support throughout the weekend.

Welsh Shooting looks forward to welcoming athletes back to future events and continuing to provide opportunities for people of all abilities to compete, develop and enjoy the sport.
