Welsh Shooting Association Pathways
The launch of the Welsh Shooting Hit Your Mark 2026-2030 strategy in early 2026 set out an ambitious and innovative new direction for shooting sports in Wales. A central part of this vision was championing and empowering our five member associations to become our centres of excellence for athlete development.
Welsh Shooting has been working closely with our associations to evolve our pathway offering, and we are delighted to be able to offer new partnerships that will provide greater pathway opportunities for more shooters across a wider range of disciplines.
Our associations will be leading on all aspects of pathway delivery, from training and competition through to setting the national agenda for their disciplines. Welsh Shooting will continue to offer centralised support packages both to our associations but also to our pathway athletes and wider shooting community.
The Pathways
Most associations will be offering a two-tier pathway – development and performance.
Below is a quick guide to the key information on the Welsh Shooting x Association Pathways:
This information is not comprehensive and serves as a quick guide. Further information will be provided where appropriate. Please contact Welsh Shooting or the relevant association.
Criteria
Development level is aimed at athletes with basic knowledge and a desire to learn & develop. This level is not suitable for total beginners or new shooters.
Performance level is for athletes who have a significant level of experience and attainment in their sport. This level may be dependent on evidencing a relevant Minimum Consideration Score/Minimum Qualification Score (MCS/MQS). Further details of these will be shared with relevant groups where appropriate. Therefore, we ask for applicants to provide evidence of their best scores across the last 12 months. In addition, athletes are expected to exhibit the required sporting expectations of their sport.
It is expected all pathway athletes will be members of the respective association on, or shortly after, their admission to the pathway.
